What fantasy book is this?

My friend was telling me about this book where these two guys were on a trip and one of them got sucked into an alternate medieval dimension and then his friend got sucked in two days later but in the alternate dimension it was like six yeas later and the friend that got sucked in first was already a great warrior. It kind of sounds like Narnia, but it isn't. Does anyone know what this is?
