Do the French have an historical tradition of having infeminite men or s in their society?

I know that uality has been part of every society since the beginning buy I'm talking more of a recognized tradition. I've been learning about the British monarchy. We had a number of gay Kings since the Norman conquest. I haven't learned further back than that yet. I guess I'm remembering old films like the scarlet pimpernell etc where the French aristocracy were represented as very ifeminite.
